Letter from the Editor - Issue III

The arabic meaning of my name [Jamel] is beauty. Knowing this inspired me to visually create the saying “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.” I met a New Yorker who does a great job of visually creating expression, Prop Stylist [Miako Katoh. Click to Link + See Prop Making].

The Spot: No Dalmatian

Last week I tweeted [Click to Link] “My apartment is like the girl in the movies no one thinks is hott until she takes off her glasses, lets her hair down and shows up at the prom.”  Recently I moved to New York and my living space-as my land lord described is a “fix-her-upper.” There was a mix of furniture from previous tenants I was able to dig through, clean up and mostly throw out.

There are a number of large book shelves filled with books, magazines, games + videos. Lets watch Def Comedy Jam on VHS! [Authenticity]. While I was organizing I found a number of vintage Playboy and other men’s magazines. Currently, the stack is apart of my “inspiration station” or home office. More great finds inherited include muslin "culture-real" area floor rug, woven laundry basket, distressed cherry wood end table and natural wood chair. In sync but eclectic.

George "The Boss" Steinbrenner. Born: Rocky River, Ohio. Legendary Owner of The New York Yankees. Made in New York [In LoviNg MemorY. July 4, 1930 – July 13, 2010].

The Ohio Players. Born: Dayton, Ohio. Maybe too funky and edgy for Detroit's Motown Soul Circuit at the time. The band's First #1 record in the U.S. was under the Chicago then New York-based Mercury Records. Made in New York.

Jamel Daniels. Born: "Holy" Toledo, Ohio. "Dayton-Youngstown-Cleveland-Cincinatti..." -Cam New York-based Designer + Architect of Menswear. Made in New York.

Sun + Sand

I attended a friend's wedding just before Spring ended. Leaving The Amusement Park [Thrill City Manhattan] I continue to seek inspiration but also take a deep breath, kick back + relieve my ringing ears. The wedding was beautiful + best of luck to them.
